Our BUG Committee provides members of this community with numerous opportunities for volunteer involvement. Do you enjoy gardening, composting, the outdoors, or simply meeting interesting people? Contact the Conservancy today to learn about the BUG Committee!
Volunteers often assist our staff with management and preparation of our community gardens, educational activities in the gardens, coordinating BUG Committee meetings/activities, and preparing the downtown pole planters twice each year.
During the winter months, if you’ve traveled on Penn or Washington Streets in Reading - or perhaps to the Sovereign Center - you’ve most likely noticed and enjoyed the attractive pole planters filled with holiday greens. They are a product of many volunteer hours and the dedication of the Berks County Conservancy’s Berks Urban Greening (BUG) Committee. Last year, over 25 planters were decorated and enjoyed by thousands of visitors and residents. In the warmer months, these planters are filled with beautiful flowers and greens. “We are proud of our BUG Committee members’ dedication to beautifying and greening our downtown. All materials and labor are donated and the festive results are enjoyed by thousands of downtown visitors - especially the planters that adorn the streets at the Sovereign Center”, said Kim Murphy, President of the Berks County Conservancy.
