Pennsylvania has 2565 governing bodies that make decisions on a variety of issues from land use to watershed protection. These decisions have a direct impact on the communities' natural resources and their citizens. Authorized through Act 177 of 1996, your local elected officials may appoint 3-7 community residents to serve on an Environmental Advisory Council (EAC). EACs advise the local planning commission, park and recreation board and elected officials on the protection, conservation, management, promotion and use of natural resources within the community.
We are proud to announce that Berks County currently has 18 active EACs! They are: County of Berks, Amity, Bethel, Cumru, District, Earl, Exeter, Heidelberg, Hereford, Kutztown, Longswamp, Pike, City of Reading, Robeson, Robesonia, Tilden, Union, Upper Bern, Washington . EACs are a great way to get involved in your community.
